County Foods Announces Commitment to Achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2039
We are proud to announce that County Foods has officially committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2039. As a leading catering butcher, we recognize our responsibility to the environment and have developed a comprehensive Carbon Reduction Plan to guide our journey toward a more sustainable future.
Our baseline and progress
To ensure transparency and accountability, we established our baseline emissions during the 2023/24 period, recording a total of 294.15. We are already seeing significant progress, in our most recent reporting year (2024/25) we reduced our total emissions to 251.0, placing us ahead of our initial projections. We are tCO₂e (tonnes of carbon emission) behind the 294.15 tCO₂e and 251 tCO₂e.
How we are achieving our goals
Our strategy involves a combination of initiatives and long-term investments across all areas of our operations:
- Renewable Energy & Efficiency: We have already invested heavily in solar power, installing 168 solar modules that generate 66.36kW of renewable energy onsite. Additionally, we have transitioned to LED lighting in various areas and utilise a heat recovery system to heat our water.
- Sustainable Transport: We have begun integrating Hybrid vehicles into our owned fleet and anticipate a full transition to electric delivery vans by 2033, as suitable vehicles become available.
- Waste Reduction: We are proud to operate as a zero waste to landfill business, redirecting waste to energy recovery.
- Operational Innovation: From installing thermal curtains in chilled areas to implementing “Endocubes” in fridges to reduce running time, we are constantly seeking technical solutions to lower our footprint.
Looking ahead
We have set ambitious interim targets, including a projected 53.7% reduction from our baseline year by 2032. To maintain this momentum, we are working with the “Climate Essentials” program and BCP Council to ensure our data remains verified and our strategies align with the highest reporting standards.
“This Carbon Reduction Plan is a living document,” says Doron Krips, Managing Director. “By engaging our employees and constantly reviewing our procurement and energy use, we are ensuring that County Foods remains a leader in sustainability within the catering industry”.
